How to Play Click
Three or four players take part in this game. First, a normal story is established. Whenever any of the three (or four) players feels it fits, that player interrupts the scene by saying "click!" out loud. The three (or four) players then line up next to each other at the front of the stage. They stack their forearms on top of each other and use them to cover their faces. One after another, each player makes a suggestion for how the scene could continue. To do so, the player raises one upper arm up and the other one down, uncovering the face, and delivers the suggestion while in that position. Afterwards the face is covered again. Once all three (or four) players have made their suggestion, the whole sequence is repeated with the same suggestions, but this time the audience may shout "click" loudly for the suggestion they like best. The suggestion that gets the most (and loudest) clicks is then put into play immediately as the scene continues.
Click interruptions should happen rather often.
Notes and tips
- Since audiences tend to pick original, chaotic or absurd suggestions, the consistency of the scene can suffer, and the game may slide into a gag game.
- Anything possible is allowed as a suggestion: content cues ("an elephant enters the room"), dramaturgical cues ("two hours later"), or playing-style cues ("the scene continues as a western"). *If, for dramaturgical reasons, one of the four players is currently not in the scene, that player does not make a suggestion during a click interruption and stays at the side.
