How to Play Pecking Order

An exercise or game for three players. The players form a status chain (A holds the highest status, B the middle, C the lowest). The following rules apply:
- A only speaks to B (asks questions and gives orders)
- B simply "passes things through" (relays the questions and orders to C and brings C's answers and feedback back to A). B plays a classic "bicyclist" (bowing upward, kicking downward)
- C is on one hand the fool, but on the other hand effectively the one steering the whole scene. He answers B's questions, carries out the orders and gives feedback.

Variants

General

  • The lower-status player is hit with a balloon.

The Three Crooks

Building on these basic rules, you can play a funny scene with the following extra rules:
- The players are three slightly dim crooks who want to pull off a heist (e.g. rob a bank). The audience provides the suggestion.
- All three wear a hat (cap, beanie, etc.). Each has the habit, whenever he gets angry, of throwing his hat to the ground and performing a tic. The tic is also given by the audience and can be something completely absurd (e.g. singing a song, ironing...).
- In this tic state he must remain until his next subordinate puts his hat back on his head.
- C is the only one allowed to put his own hat back on.
