How to Play Singing Storyteller

In this game, the story is opened, accompanied and closed by a singing storyteller (sS). The sS stands to the side, near the accompanying musician. The sS asks the audience for a suggestion and then begins to sing a story, narrating as the song unfolds. When the sS finishes singing, the actors begin to speak and play. Whenever the sS feels it fits, the sS starts singing again. To do so, the sS steps forward but always stays to the side. When the sS steps forward, the actors end their scene. The sS can sum things up, give new impulses, initiate time jumps, voice the inner thoughts of the characters and much more. At some point the sS finishes singing, steps back, and the next scene of the story begins. This back-and-forth happens several times. After the actors have played their final scene, the sS steps forward for the closing song. That can be, for example, the "moral of the story" or a glimpse into the future of the characters.

Tips and pointers:
- Whenever the sS sings, the sS steps forward. When the sS is silent, the sS stands at the back. It is important that the sS always stays to the side. The central area of the stage belongs to the acting players. Only at the very end, during the "closing song", may the sS enter the central area.
- What is sung does not have to rhyme and does not need a verse/chorus structure.
- The sS and the acting players give each other impulses back and forth.
