How to Play Statue Scene Start
A preparatory exercise for Freeze Tag and other freeze or statue games.
Players form pairs. First, demonstrate the exercise with one pair. One player is sculpted by the other into any statue. The sculptor then steps back, and the "statue" has the task, from that posture, of using ideally one sentence to:
1. justify the posture
1. make clear who they are (at least roughly)
1. possibly also where they are.
That is quite a challenge!
How do you make your own role clear? There are, for example, these options:
- by defining the partner. Examples:
- "Mommy, I don't want to go to kindergarten anymore!"
- "Villain! On your sword sticks the blood of my daughter!"
- by pointing to a typical activity. Examples:
- "Alright, everyone take out your notebooks now."
- "Please have a seat! Wash and cut, as usual?"
- through tone of voice and language. Example:
- (high voice) "Hee hee hee hee! This little soup is a goooood potion!"
- (laid-back voice, slow and "cool") "Hello ... Joe. You're late."
- body language, gestures and facial expression support the role.
- possible but not really recommended is the method of starting a monologue with yourself. Example:
- "What a brilliant scientist I am! This invention will make me famous!"
It is only about the scene opening, about conveying base information, the story is not played out further. The partner can give the player feedback on what character they saw as the audience. The players take turns.
